Hi,
When viewing any dokuwiki page with a screen reader, for example jaws for windows from freedom scientific (http://www.freedomscientific.com), a blind user cannot hear the full name of the edit and other important buttons; instead, the access key is announced. This is because dokuwiki places the access key in the title atribute of the button; this is *incorrect*. The title atribute is treated as a full name for the button by most screen readers on the market, and the value atribute is ignored when title is present.
the following work-arounds are currently available:
1. to those hosting a dokuwiki:
edit inc/html.php and find the following line:
$ret .= 'title="ALT+'.strtoupper($akey).'" ';
and comment it out (by adding a double slash in front of it) so it looks like this:
// $ret .= 'title="ALT+'.strtoupper($akey).'" ';
Please note that as I am completely blind, I have no idea what this does visually to your wiki, if anything.
2. to those using jaws for windows to view someone elses dokuwiki:
2.1 temperary solution:
to fix this problem for the currently open window, press jaws key plus v. in the verbosity dialog, cursor down to "buttons recognized by - screen text." Press space on this until it reads "buttons recognized by - value.". tab to and select the close button. Please note that these settings will be lost when you close or minimize the currently active Window.
2.2 perminant solution:
Important! This will almost certinly cause problems with other websites you may visit, and should only be performed if you expect to be spending most of your time on a particular machine with dokuwiki (like for a work project or something). From within your browser, press jaws key plus f2, and select "configuration manager." On the menu bar, select "set options", and then "html options". On the misc tab, find "button text options", and set the radio button to "by value". Press okay, and close the configuration manager; select "yes" to save your changes.
