I just like to keep static data (eg conf files) separate from dynamic data (ie acl list). I'm running the 06-03-09 version with patches to do this. Will try to find a way to submit them.

This is a darcs patch from 29/6. Slightly different technique, new dokuwiki.php conf setting to be overridden in local.php, also available in settings plugin.
