It would be very nice to be able to use 'useheading' just for the trace bar since the text in the first heading of an entry sometimes simply doesn't fit in the context.

I assume this means, "Make it possible to configure where 'useheading' will be applied".
'useheading' is currently applied whenever a link to a page needs to be displayed. Locations could be reasonably classified as:
- wiki page content
- trace/breadcrumbs
- backlink button
- index, backlinks & recent changes lists
- search results
It should be relatively straightforward to add a configuration option to handle this and to modify the existing codebase to take it into account. However is the change worthwhile? I tend to think of useheadings as an all or nothing option and construct headings and pagenames accordingly.
Andi, if you think its worthwhile, feel free to assign it to me; If not I'll close it :)

Chris I think there were similar requests by others (can't find them right now). I think at least a three stage switch would make sense: "page content", "navigation", "all". Where navigation is all links that are not part of the pages itself (trace, search results, RSS headlines). A different approach would be to change the setting to a bit mask adding a switch for each single component, but I guess thats a bit overkill and a lot of work to maintain, so I'd prefer the three state switch.
