'@' is php's error suppression operator. For me, this implies the top candidate for your issue is a problem in your PHP.
However, if removing '@' solves the problem, I suspect there was a previously suppressed error that is now being reported in your php error log. Can you check that log and if you find an error related to that source line, please paste the error here.
