The drag and drop for file upload does not seem to be active for IE8. No error messages, just no reaction when you try to drop pictures in the relevant place. Firefox - OK.
IE8, PHP 5.3.8, Clean install Angua.

It is not working in IE also. The console points to the following function:
_isValidFileDrag: function(e){
var dt = e.dataTransfer,
// do not check dt.types.contains in webkit, because it crashes safari 4
isWebkit = navigator.userAgent.indexOf("AppleWebKit") > -1;
// dt.effectAllowed is none in Safari 5
// dt.types.contains check is for firefox
return dt && dt.effectAllowed != 'none' && // this is line 21633
(dt.files || (!isWebkit && dt.types.contains && dt.types.contains('Files')));
}
SCRIPT65535: Unexpected call to method or property access.

I'm sorry. I think, I'm blind. Where the hell do you have to drop the files? My IE8 only reacts to show the files I drop using an explorer. There's nothing like a pane opening up or something.

As the image is dragged onto the media mananger a gray area replaces the upload buttons up which signals that the drag is successful. When the drop occurs then the path to the image appears in the upload text box.

Okay, I can't get it to work in my IE8. But isn't this the magical HTML5-File Upload that everybodys talking about and IE8 doesn't support?!?! The File Uploader just doesn't enter the function in which he has to show the upload area. But no errors, exceptions, whatsoevers.

According to the link on the Change Log Page (http://valums.com/ajax-upload/) it should work with IE7 and up. Unless somethÃng was changed during the Dokuwiki implementation.

According to the page on valums.com/ajax-upload it should NOT work with IE! It clearly states: "Drag-and-drop is supported in FF, Chrome."
So, I guess that means we won't support it either. The functionality is nice, but not necessary anyway. (You can still use the normal upload functionality in Internet Explorer, even with multiple files.)

I corrected the documentation in the change log accordingly.

the original script doesn't support IE and it's not essential for the overall functionality

Thanks for the clarification!

Please see the request for reopening above.
Just to clarify, it is possible to select multiple files and then upload them at the same time but what is missing, that was previously possible, is the abiility to select multiple files in the Explorer Window (either by drawing a box around them or with Ctrl or Shift). So if I have a local folder with 30 pictures in it which I want to put in my Wiki I need to click each file individually.

No, you can upload multiple files in any browser (including IE). What is not working in IE is a functionality which is *new* to DokuWiki: Now you can drag some files and drop them directly into a certain area. That makes it a bit easier, but uploading the old way still works.

How do you upload multiple files in IE?
-
2011-12-17

Oh, wow, I just realised that you *cannot* upload multiple files in IE. :(
I assumed that after you click "Select files..." the window that opens is a system window and has nothing to do with the browser, so behaves the same across all browsers.
Okay, this obviously needs to get fixed. But as this is a different issue than the drag and drop functionality, I won't re-open this bug report but will open a new one instead.

senorandy, you can upload multiple files with IE using the Media Manager available in the latest release (Angua).

It does not seem to with the media manager or the normal popup media window when editing a page. One file at a time..or am I missing something?

bug
I just booted a VM with XP+IE8 and it doesn't seem IE8 is able to upload multiple files in one operation (its file selector is single file based) so this browser will only allow you to upload several files adding each one after the other through its selector. That's a really old school browser :-)
