FS#193 Fallback authentication and groups
ACL & Authentication
2005-03-10dfisher
It would be useful if both authentication and group data could fallback to the 'plain' mechanism if a failure occurs.
For instance, my ldap does not store group data.
So after authentication I would like the group data to be loaded using the plain text file.
This would also be useful in the case that I need to allow someone to authenticate, but they cannot have an entry in the ldap.
Adding them to the plain text file would allow entry after ldap authentication failed.
I can add this functionality in one of two ways.
1) Change your naming scheme in the auth_*.php files.
auth_plain.php would contain auth_plain_checkPass.
This would eliminate function name collisions and allow
auth_* files to call methods in other auth_* files.
2) Change your auth files to be classes.
This is not a lot of work, it basically involves wrapping
your functions in a class.
However, you may not want to use OOP in order to maintain
compatibility with older PHP versions.
Let me know if you would like me to submit patches for this functionality.

Using OO for the auth backends sounds reasonable to me. A patch would be welcome.
