I reproduced the problem and posted the test case on the page you named (search for "Test Case for Bug Report
FS#1241").
-> The problem appears when you write http:// (the protocol without full address following) somewhere in your text. The parser then stops all parsing until the next double slash, since it is interpreting all following text as italics.
I admit that this is a very special case, but it will appear whenever you are talking about protocols like http://, ftp:// and so on in your article.
