Dear all,
normally I am quite fluent with computers, but after
untaring the dokuwiki.tar with either WinRaR or PowerArchiver on WinXP gives me only ONE file. However the documentation for the installation tells me there should
be a whole tree (at least the conf directory to set things up). I would like to use DokuWiki, but now I probably have
to go for MediaWiki where untaring was no problem at all.
What am I missing?
Best,
Dieter Braun.

The file is a .tgz or to be correct a .tar.gz file. This means it's a tar archive which is zipped with gzip. Your Windowstools probably expect only one format. So when you extract it the first time you only decompress the the tar. You need to unpack the tar then. Maybe you need to rename this unpacked file to a .tar extension to do so.
So do this: Extract dokuwiki-X-Y-Z.tgz -> rename dokuwiki-X-Y-Z to dokuwiki-X-Y-Z.tar -> Unpack dokuwiki-X-Y-Z.tar
You should now have a directory dokuwiki-X-Y-Z

Dear Andreas!
Thanks for the help - however this is not obvious from
what the website is saying. As you say, the Windowstool
just extracts it without any ending, so there is no
clue on how to proceed.
Best,
Dieter.

Update:
For the Binky RC2 download, the download came as a "xxx.gz"-file (not tgz).
After renaming the file to "xxx.tar.gz", WINRAR extracted the dokuwiki directory and the files in one go.
