FS#1698 CSS not loaded after page refresh

  DokuWiki installed on IIS6 on a Windows 2003 Web Edition server.
  PHP 5.2.6 running with FastCGI
  
  If I open a page of my wiki (start page for instance) and just clic the "reload" button of my browser, the page reloads but without any styles applied.
  This happens under both FireFox and Internet Explorer.
  
  I tried with compression on or of, but it did not help.
  
  I haven't found other mentions of this, but I did not really now what to search for, so excuse me if this is a duplicate.

  Any errors in the server logs? What happens if you load /lib/exe/css.php and press relaod a couple of times?

  Calling /lib/exe/css.php works the first time, and I get an empty document as soon as I hit refresh.
  It really is an empty document. The server replies with "200 OK" state and a content-length of "0".

  Also, I have PHP error reporting turned on but as you can see no error is raised is this document.
  Otherwise, I can't see anything special in the server log.
  
  I have to mention that we are running PHP 5.2.6 in FastCGI mode (latest version of the FastCGI dll as of today, 1.5).

  Sounds like reading the created cached version of the CSS doesn't work or the file isn't saved correctly. Search your data/cache/ file for *.css files and check if they are empty.

  I have 3 .css files in data/cache, none of them is empty.
  I'll double check whether PHP errors are turned on.

  I checked again : errors are displayed but I see no error when calling this css.php page.
  I tried to delete the cached file and the were recreated just fine.

  OK, I found it !
  In our configuration (IIS6, FastCGI, PHP 5.2.6), header("HTTP/1.1 304 Not Modified") must be replaced with header("Status: 304 Not Modified").
  I believe that another solution (from what I've read in the fastcgi forum on iis.net) disabling dynamic content compression in IIS might also work, but I haven't tried.

  Dokuwiki returns properly generated CSS to my browsers (Safari, Firefox, Opera) for a time, and then the CSS no longer is applied. I have done a number of things to try to restore CSS: purging the cache, disabling PHP CGI compression, etc. The only fix has been to replace Dokuwiki code with CGI "Status" headers as the previous poster suggests.
  
  I found this post that also suggests Dokuwiki is not returning properly formatted status codes. I have been able to repair the problem by editing "header(HTTP/1.1" to read "header(Status: "

  I confirm this bug. It is still present in Release 2011-05-25 "Rincewind".
  I use nginx-0.8.54 + php-fpm on FreeBSD 8.1 Release.
  
  The other way to solve is to comment the line #1482 in data/lib/exe/css.php:
  //$cache = getCacheName('styles'.$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].$_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'].DOKU_BASE.$tplinc.$style,'.css');
  
  and the line #1117 in data/lib/exe/js.php:
  //$cache = getCacheName('scripts'.$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].$_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'],'.js');
  
  Hacking code is bad solution, but it works. I hope it will be fixed in the next release, or just added the option to configuration settings.

  Did you make sure that your X-Send header was disabled?  We had the same issue for a number of folks until we turned this back off.

  This appears to be an artifact of some non-standard PHP syntax. Most standards-complaint webservers (i.e. not Apache or IIS) will likely have issues because of this. Offending entries look like: //header('HTTP/1.0 $CODE $MESSAGE');//, but I believe the more correct syntax would be: //header("Status: $CODE");//. I've attached a small patch against "Adora Belle" which makes the necessary changes. Works for me on Hiawatha 8.5 and nginx 1.3.7.

  OK, I think I have the final word on this. I had the same problem with a Drupal installation on the same server. It would serve blank pages when caching was enabled.
  The problem is a setting in PHP.ini. You have to change the line
  cgi.rfc2616_headers = 1
  to
  cgi.rfc2616_headers = 0
  This determines how PHP will send headers ('Status' when set to 0, 'HTTP 1.1' when set to 1).
  IN PHP documentation they mention that this setting should only be used in apache because it needs 'Status' headers. It is in fact not Apache but the FastCGI module that needs the Status header, and it is the same for FastCGI on IIS !
  
  Crazy, isn't it !?
