FS#598 Versions control on files
Backend
2005-10-18jakob
It would be nice if dokuwiki had version control on files (images, office-documents, pdf's etc.) as well as on pages, like mediawiki.

I can't say about mediawiki, but I'll put a 'me too' on this request. We are looking at ISO9000 compliance, and keeping versioned documents, including the images/attachements will end up being a requirement for us.

+1 on this old feature request, which is more neutral than FS#137. Could an action plugin intercept io_save to feed an external SCM/VCS?

This feature (have the storage backend being a VCS repository) must be part of DokuWiki core (could be a core plugin of course).

Could we do this by adding a timestamp to image/file names?
- Files/images could be referenced with or without a version.
- If a file/image reference is made without a version, the parser would work out the current image based on the page version and use that.
- If an file/image was updated, all the pages referencing it would need to be found and "up versioned" with a "file/image updated" comment.
- Make the facility optional through configuration.

+1. Willing to be contacted for testing purposes.
