  i have installed dokuwiki with symlink farm a long time ago. Until Rincewind, the upgrade went smooth, but with Angua, it broke due to the lack of 2 dirs:
  - media_attic and media_meta
  The problem is that i have to create these dirs in all the "animals" (hopefully less than 20 in my case), but it's a very annoying problem. I fear that if i have a thousand of "animals", the problem becomes hard to solve.
  I hope this will be taken into account for the future releases.

  Previously the page tips:farm contained the content of http://www.dokuwiki.org/tips:redirect_farm so Anika's comment refers to that page (but I haven't really understood why that content has been moved and why it is called "redirect farm" as it is not really using redirects and after all it is the farm setup that is officially supported and won't break on upgrades as at least some of the core developers are using it themselves so imho it made sense to have that as tips:farm page - and actually that setup is even a bit more flexible than described there, maybe I should start documenting a bit more how one can tweak that...).
  
  After all I think that problem isn't that difficult to solve, if you have thousands of animals you'll most probably also know how to write a basic for loop in the shell (or in PHP, ...) that creates the missing directories in your directory structure. Even though we try to support farms more and more, farms are always custom setups and I don't think it makes sense to automatically create these directories as e.g. some of my animals share some of the data directories but e.g. not the cache directory so in that case there is no real possibility to automatically decide where these directories should be created.

  I fully agree with Michael's assessment, so I'll close this as won't fix. @Michael, if you think the way how farming is presented/organized in the wiki can be changed please feel free to reorganize (I have no experience in farming). I also wouldn't mind to move farm setup from tips to the main namespace.

  And whenever you upgrade, you should read http://www.dokuwiki.org/changes. Whenever directories are added, it is mentioned there. Although, I must admit, that page should sometimes be a bit more detailed...
